So my favorite NFL team, the Indianapolis Colts, are getting ready to play a Thursday Night Football game tonight againts the Jacksonville Jaguaers and i'm pretty excited. I'm excited beause I love football. It's a sport where one can really get behind the team one chooses to cheer for and can be a friendly compitition between friends. Sometimes it can get intense and heated words are said, but most of the time it's fun. I'm also excited because the Colts are on televison and as a resident of Wisconsin, they aren't often. They are sometimes on TV on an alternite channel that the Green Bay Packers aren't on or when they are in a differnt time slot, but this is uncommon.
I find myself excited for the game beause not only can I watch my favorite team play football, but I believe in the team and support them fully. Major changes have come to the Indy Colts within the last year "new head coach, GM, president", and oh, Peyton Manning is on the Denver Broncos. This is old news, but the new news sweeping Colts fans everywhere is that Manning's replacement, Andrew Luck, is the real deal. He's already up for Rookie of the Year honors, set a NFL rookie passing yard record last week vs. Miami, and might even drive the Colts into the playoffs in a wild card spot.
Wait a second, is this all for real?
Last year, with Peyton Manning out, the Colts ended up on a 14 game losing streak until they finished the season 2-14 to earn the first pick in the 2012 NFL draft. A complete redue came to the team as multiple coaches were let go, along with many reconizeable players such as Dallas Clark, Joseph Addai, Gary Brackett, and oh yeah, #18. The Colts took Andrew Luck with the first pick in the draft, hired new coaches and a GM and promised the Colts fans that they were "not in a rebuilding year" even though it was pretty obvious they were.
At 5-3, Colts ower Jim Irsay is looking like a genius for this giant gamble. He will still be critizised for letting Manning go, but he was thinking about the future of the organization and what was best for both parties.
If the Colts win tonight, they will have double the wins than losses and there will be some very happy fans around, including myself. No matter what though, this is the team I support and love. The Indianapolis Colts are the team to watch this season not only for their rookie QB Luck, but for their passionate, firey play for their head coach, Chuck Pagano, who is currently battling lukemia.
As always, i'm excited for football and excited to cheer on my team.
Go Colts!
